Gamealot is a 2 1/2 day board game convention that brings novice and experienced players together to play games and raise funds for a local charity that supports families in our community.

This year, our goal is to raise funds for the Veterans Association Food Bank.

Partnering with the Veterans Association Food Bank

Game-A-Lot has always been by the gamers, for the gamers, so the message of a community of Veterans Helping Veterans resonated strongly.  The Veterans Association Food Bank provides many essential services, including:

• Food & Essential Item Assistance

• Veteran Homeless Program (VHP)

• Employment Support & Volunteer Programs

• Financial Assistance Programs

• Legal, Psychological, and Mobility Aids

• Pet Promise Program: Supporting the Bond Between Veterans and Pets

• Veterans Affairs: Advocacy and Support Within the System

Community has always been the heart of Game-A-Lot. Board games, by their very nature, bring people together and drive connection, something we all benefit immensely from. Game-A-Lot was able to donate $5,000 to the Veterans Association Food Bank in 2024, and we hope to match or exceed that in 2025. We are grateful to the Veterans Association Food Bank for physically hosting Game-A-Lot in 2025 and wish to share our joy for boardgames with veterans in the spirit of community building, togetherness, growth, and of course, fun.

About Game-A-Lot

In the late ’90s, John Engel, then owner of Mission: Fun & Games in St. Albert, set out to host an event “for the gamers, by the gamers.” The idea evolved into a fundraiser. John hosted the first Game-A-Lot in support of the St. Albert Food Bank at his store in 2001. The event has since raised thousands of dollars and hundreds of pounds of goods for people in need.

Today, Gamealot is organized and managed by a committee of gaming enthusiast volunteers. Over 100 guests from across Alberta attend the event each year.
